Bearded Dragon care guide
Bearded dragon care
guide
Hey everyone, today
I’m gonna be giving you a basic bearded dragon care guide. To be completely
honest this was a bit difficult for me because every single article says
something different. one saying
you can’t do this and the other one saying that you can, but from all of the
information I gathered this is the proper care for your bearded dragon. I
myself do not have one but I really want one and I’ve been researching all I
can about them before actually getting one.I have a feeling my
grandma will kick to Africa if I get one cause she seems terrified every time I
bring it up. So let’s start.
(Space)
These guys do take up
bit more space because they require a minimum of 40 gallons when they’re full-grown.
In my opinion it’s not
a good idea to continuously keep upgrading the tank.
a 40 gallon is
really just the bare minimum. The best size tank you could go for is a 60 gallon- 75 gallon. it might sound like a lot space but it will ensure the most
activity from your bearded dragon.
(heating/UVB)
I will not lie when I
tell you this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to research when it comes to
an animal. This was so confusing but I finally found out the best heating and
UVB set up. First things first for heating, you’re going to need 100 W repti
basking spot lamp. (make sure the light fixture can hold the
amount of wattage the bulb is to prevent fires and overheating)
For UVB you’re going
to need a repti-sun T5 HO terrarium hood with 100 W UVB tube. This needs to take
up 3/4 of the tank. T5 gives you the opportunity to put the fixture on the
outside of the tank (mesh lid) instead of finding a way to hang it on the inside. The
reason why you have to hang most fixtures on the inside is because the reg UVB does
not penetrate through the mesh lid. Finding cheap lighting is dangerous
and ends up not working in the long run. I would say Lighting will cost up to $100. if you dont use an enclosure with a mesh lid youll have to hang up a uvb tube inside. dont use T5 because it will burn your dragon just use regular T8.
(hide/accessories)
· large corner hide they can use to bask (corner
accessories will give your dragon more space)
· Driftwood and log pieces (the love it)
· Hammock for them to bask/rest on
· Bearded dragons really don’t need many hides
they just need a hide for basking and a hide to get away from the heat
· Food and water dish
(Don’t use sand! You can use paper towel or tile)
(Don’t use sand! You can use paper towel or tile)
(Diet)
· as babies bearded dragons diet mainly consist
of insects such as crickets, mealworms, hornworms, and Dubia roaches.
· As adults their diets change to mainly greens
such as turnup greens, spinach, kale and other fruits (occasionally flowers)
· They still eat some insects as adults but some
don’t (it’s still good to offer)
· Some people complain about getting their
beardies to eat greens and some complain about getting them to eat insects it
all depends on yours
· All their food must be dusted in calcium with
D3 and calcium without D3
So That’s pretty much
it for your bearded dragon care guide, here’s a little list if you weren’t able
to catch everything:
· 40-75 gallon tank
· Repti basking light (100w) dome fixture with matching bulb
· T5 HO UVB terrarium hood 10.0 uvb with bulb
(make sure it takes up 3/4 percent of the tank depending on how big your tank
is) this is only if your using a mesh lid. if not use reg T8 uvb tube lighing
· Basking hide with hammock
· Cool Hide
· Food and water dish
The average cost
owning a bearded dragon is $300-$400. hope this helps if you have any questions
please let me know. If your having trouble convincing your parents cause they
think your talking about Godzilla’s grandchild, send them memes, show them your
responsible, and save up!
Bye!
